Using Every Tool
Telling the full breadth of a story doesn't always involve words on a page alone. To quote James Doohan's Capt. Montgomery Scott of Star Trek, you need "the right tool for the right job."
Ryan began to teach himself graphic design, photography and publication even before he was named sports editor at his high school paper as a freshman. He committed himself to continued education in each of those disciplines, pushing himself to recreate effects and compositions he saw in leading publications and discovering new ways to translate his vision from his mind's eye to the page. As a digital publisher, he continued to evolve, learning video editing and production, shooting game film and editing highlight reels while writing recaps and analysis pieces for games, camps and practices. He expanded his video repertoire to include video essays and on-camera interviews, and hosted and produced a podcast which ran for five years. Ryan evolves with the times, picking up new skills and techniques at every opportunity. He sees each new job, each new assignment, each new branding effort as a chance to learn and innovate.
